UPCOMING AUDITIONS:

CASTING NOTICE

Players’ Shakespeare, an arm of Gallery Players in Park Slope, is holding auditions for its upcoming production of Hamlet by William Shakespeare.  This production is Non-Equity.  No pay.

Rehearsals will start on June 27th and typically will be in the evening during the week and in the day during the weekends.

The show will run from July 31st – August 7th.

Director, Dominic Cuskern.

Players’ Shakespeare is a developing ensemble that provides training and performance opportunities to actors. The group focuses on honing dexterity with Shakespeare’s language, and cultivating related acting skills to bring a play to life on stage.

We are seeking as diverse a cast as possible. Actors of all races, ethnicities, orientations are strongly encouraged to audition.

The production will be a simplified in terms of the design elements, relying heavily on  Shakespeare’s language, actor skills, lighting and sound to convey the world of the play.

Importantly, rehearsals will be part Shakespeare boot-camp where actors acquire a basic hands-on guide to Shakespearean technique (iambic pentameter, operative words, antithesis and more).  However, the vast majority of rehearsal time will be spent putting into practice techniques we will learn. Our mantra is to learn by doing. For those actors who may already know the basics, it will be a very useful brush-up.

Tick is the emotional heart of the story, navigating the journey of self-acceptance and reconciliation. Charismatic, warm, conflicted, and genuine with a dry sense of humor. Must be comfortable performing in drag.

Bernadette Bassenger – Gender: Transgender Female | Age: 50–60s | Vocal Range: Baritone (G2–G4)
A seasoned performer and former “Les Girls” showgirl. Poised, glamorous, and deeply compassionate, Bernadette is the maternal figure of the trio. She’s navigating her own journey of love and aging while mentoring her friends. Elegant, strong-willed, witty, and wise. Requires exceptional acting skills with comedic and dramatic depth.  Note: We will also consider cis-gender male or non-binary performers, but given the character’s story and the importance of representation, we are strongly seeking transgender actresses.

Adam / Felicia Jollygoodfellow – Gender: Male-presenting or Non-binary (Drag Performer) | Age: 20–30s | Vocal Range: Tenor (B2–B4)
A young, sassy drag queen with a sharp tongue and a love of Madonna. Adam is bold and unapologetic but hides his insecurities behind his flamboyance. Outrageous, cheeky, and fiercely confident. Requires strong dance skills and the ability to deliver high-energy performances.

Bob – Gender: Male-presenting | Age: 50–60s | Vocal Range: Baritone
A kind, down-to-earth mechanic who joins the journey after meeting Bernadette. Bob has an earnest appreciation for the simpler things in life and an open mind about the trio’s lifestyle. Gentle, dependable, and quietly charming.

Cynthia – Gender: Female-presenting | Age: 20–40s | Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano
Bob’s fiery and unpredictable wife. Filipino/Asian/Eurasian. She performs a memorable, comedic “ping-pong ball” routine and isn’t afraid to stir the pot. Bold, brassy, and full of energy. Requires comedic timing.

The Divas (3 Roles) – Gender: Female-presenting | Age: 20–40s | Vocal Range: Pop/Rock Belt (F3–F#5)
