CASTING NOTICE

Players’ Shakespeare, an arm of Gallery Players in Park Slope, is holding auditions for its upcoming production of Hamlet by William Shakespeare.  This production is Non-Equity.  No pay. 

Rehearsals will start on June 27th and typically will be in the evening during the week and in the day during the weekends. 

The show will run from July 31st – August 7th.

Players’ Shakespeare is a developing ensemble that provides training and performance opportunities to actors. The group focuses on honing dexterity with Shakespeare’s language, and cultivating related acting skills to bring a play to life on stage.

We are seeking as diverse a cast as possible. Actors of all races, ethnicities, orientations are strongly encouraged to audition.

The production will be a simplified in terms of the design elements, relying heavily on  Shakespeare’s language, actor skills, lighting and sound to convey the world of the play.

Importantly, rehearsals will be part Shakespeare boot-camp where actors acquire a basic hands-on guide to Shakespearean technique (iambic pentameter, operative words, antithesis and more).  However, the vast majority of rehearsal time will be spent putting into practice techniques we will learn. Our mantra is to learn by doing. For those actors who may already know the basics, it will be a very useful brush-up.

Prepare a one-minute verse monologue from any play by Shakespeare: it can be either dramatic or comic (whatever shows you off at your best).  

Sign up will start 30 minutes prior to the audition start time.  Please bring a resume and headshot.

Callbacks will be held on Sunday, June 14th at the theatre.

 

CASTING NOTICE

Gallery Players is holding auditions for its upcoming non-equity production of PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT – THE MUSICAL.   We are currently seeking actors for the roles of BERNADETTE, BOB, and BENJI.   Note: If you have already submitted you are still being considered, so please do not submit again.

Book by Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott. Based on the Latent Image/Specific Film motion picture distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.

This production is non-equity.  There is a one time stipend of $100.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

Performers of all races and ethnicities, gender expressions, cultural heritages/backgrounds, body types, as well as disabled and differently-abled performers, are encouraged to submit. We are seeking an inclusive, diverse cast.

Audition Materials Song: Please prepare a 30-60 second pop/rock or musical theatre cut in the style of the show. We are specifically seeking singers with a natural and organic feel for the stylized popular music in this score, instead of a more traditional musical theatre sound.

Monologue: A 1 minute monologue, comedic or dramatic.

Dance: Please provide a dance reel or short video of you dancing in a show, if you have one. There will be a dance call for those invited to callbacks.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

Bernadette Bassenger – Gender: Transgender Female | Age: 50–60s | Vocal Range: Baritone (G2–G4)
A seasoned performer and former “Les Girls” showgirl. Poised, glamorous, and deeply compassionate, Bernadette is the maternal figure of the trio. She’s navigating her own journey of love and aging while mentoring her friends. Elegant, strong-willed, witty, and wise. Requires exceptional acting skills with comedic and dramatic depth.  Note: We will also consider cis-gender male or non-binary performers, but given the character’s story and the importance of representation, we are strongly seeking transgender actresses.

Bob – Gender: Male-presenting | Age: 50–60s | Vocal Range: Baritone
A kind, down-to-earth mechanic who joins the journey after meeting Bernadette. Bob has an earnest appreciation for the simpler things in life and an open mind about the trio’s lifestyle. Gentle, dependable, and quietly charming.

Benji – Child actor – Gender: Male-presenting | Age: 6–10 | Vocal Range: Unchanged voice (A3–D5)
Tick and Marion’s sweet and accepting young son. Benji represents unconditional love and is the reason for Tick’s journey of self-discovery. Innocent, warm, and open-hearted.
