Audition Skills with Tom Rowan

Are you looking to improve your auditioning skills and expand your repertoire as theaters begin to reopen? This six-week class for actors of all experience levels will focus on selecting and rehearsing a couple of contrasting monologues, improving cold-reading skills, and tips on how to present yourself and your work in the audition room. Sessions on headshots and writing/editing your resume will also be included. Please have a two-minute monologue ready to work on for the first session.
 

TOM ROWAN is a director, playwright, teacher, and casting director in New York City. He has directed over seventy plays and musicals, including eighteen Shakespeare productions; for the Gallery Players, he has directed Master Class, A Little Night Music, A Chorus Line, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. As a playwright, his produced plays include Kiss and Cry, The Second Tosca, Faye Drummond, and David’s Play. He is the author of the books A Chorus Line FAQ: All That’s Left to Know About Broadway’s Singular Sensation and Rent FAQ: All That’s Left to Know About Broadway’s Blaze of Glory, both published by Applause Books. A lifetime member of The Ensemble Studio Theatre, Tom has served as that theatre’s Literary Manager and is currently its casting director; other casting credits include Nebraska Shakespeare Festival, Austin Shakespeare, and Urbanite Theatre of Florida. He has taught for the EST Institute, NYU, Stella Adler Studio, TVI, Actors Connection, and One-on-One Productions. Tom has a BA in Theatre from Trinity University and an MFA in Directing from the University of Washington, and was a Drama League Directing Fellow.
